Fort Lauderdale rarely slows down.
This is where it stops.

Between demanding workweeks, beach days, training sessions and a phone that never stops, your body and mind rarely get a genuine break. Float therapy is that break — one full hour where nothing is asking anything of you.

City Cave Flagler Village sits minutes from Las Olas and Downtown Fort Lauderdale, with free parking on site. Inside: private float suites, each with an open pool the size of a full-size bed and your own shower.

What is float therapy?

Float therapy — you may know it as sensory deprivation — is one hour of effortless floating in a pool of warm water saturated with 1,000 lbs of dissolved Epsom salts. The water is warmed to skin temperature, the salt makes you completely buoyant, and with light and sound removed, your body stops bracing against gravity entirely.

Within minutes, your mind drops toward theta — the deep, meditative state you normally only touch at the edge of sleep. Most first-timers describe the hour as the deepest rest they can remember — and in an open City Cave pool, it feels less like deprivation and more like relief.

The benefits of floating,
whoever you are.

For busy minds

Where the noise stops

With nothing to see, hear or react to, mental chatter winds down. Most guests describe a quiet, unhurried mind that lingers for days.

For desk workers & stress-holders

Neck & shoulders, off duty

The water cradles your head completely, so the muscles that carry your day have nothing left to do but let go.

For sore backs

Gravity, switched off

Weightlessness takes the load off your spine. For compressed discs and aching lower backs, it's a rare hour of true relief.

For athletes & weekend warriors

Recovery, the easy way

Buoyancy unloads every muscle at once while magnesium-rich water supports a tired body. It's why athletes float after heavy training.

For moms & moms-to-be

No pressure, anywhere

Zero load on knees, hips and back. Many guests float through pregnancy for relief from the weight on joints — check with your doctor first.

For better sleep

A slower, calmer rhythm

As the nervous system shifts into rest-and-digest, heart rate eases and the transition into deep sleep comes easier at bedtime.

Open pools. Private rooms.
Room for two.

Open pools, not pods

Our float rooms hold an open pool the size of a full-size bed — no lid, no capsule, no enclosed tank. Lights and music on or off; it's your hour.

Completely private

Every float is in your own suite with your own shower. Towels, toiletries and everything you need are provided.

Big enough for two

Our open pools comfortably fit two guests — share the experience, or keep the hour entirely to yourself. Your session, your choice.

Your first float,
start to finish.

  1. Arrive 15 minutes early — we'll show you to your private room and pool, and walk you through everything.
  2. Rinse off — a quick shower before you float. Everything you need is provided.
  3. Float for 60 minutes — lights and music on, or off for full stillness. Your call.
  4. Shower and dress — rinse the salt away; body wash, shampoo and conditioner are there.
  5. Unwind — ease back into the day before you head out.

"Is the water clean?"
Yes. Here's exactly how.

Filtered between every guest

Every session has a 90-minute window so the room is fully reset and the entire pool is circulated and filtered before the next guest — through filters built for ten times the water our pools hold.

Salt does the heavy lifting

At 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt, the water is far too saline for bacteria and microbes to survive — the same reason nothing lives in the Dead Sea.

Your own private room

You never share the space, and you shower before and after in your own suite.

Float therapy FAQs

What is sensory deprivation?

Sensory deprivation is the common name for floatation-REST (Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy) — floating in warm, salt-saturated water with light and sound removed. At City Cave it happens in an open pool in a private room, so it feels less like deprivation and more like the deepest rest of your week.

What if I can't swim?

You don't need to. The pool is shallow and the salt makes you so buoyant you float effortlessly on your back — you can't sink.

Is it like being shut in a box?

No. Our pools are open — no lid, no capsule. The room is yours, the light is yours to control, and the door is never locked.

Can I drown if I fall asleep?

No — the salt holds you on your back effortlessly. Plenty of people drift off, and the water simply holds you.

What do I wear?

Most guests float with nothing on, since the room is completely private and swimwear against the skin can distract from the experience. Swimwear is welcome too — towels and toiletries are provided.

How much does float therapy cost in Fort Lauderdale?

At City Cave Flagler Village, a 60-minute float is $89, and first-time float guests pay $69 with our intro offer. Memberships and series packs bring floats down to from $59 a session, and a second guest can be added to your pool for $20.

How often should I float?

There's no wrong cadence — many guests float weekly or fortnightly, and the calm tends to compound with regularity. Start with one and see how long the quiet lasts.

Can I float while pregnant?

Floating is popular through pregnancy for relieving the weight on the back and joints. We recommend checking with your doctor first.

Can I float with someone?

Yes — our open pools comfortably fit two guests, or the hour is entirely yours if you prefer.

Science-backed
isn't a slogan here.

Research on floatation-REST has reported meaningful reductions in stress and anxiety after even a single session. Clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Justin Feinstein — President of the nonprofit Float Research Collective — has led research establishing floatation-REST as a promising drug-free approach to easing stress and anxiety. Hear it from him — and see how City Cave's open float pools bring that research to everyone:
